In my work, I start with the assumption that neuronal networks evolved to perform well on tasks such as supervised learning or filtering. From there, I derive synaptic learning rules that are evaluated against two criteria: performance on the task and compatibility with electrophysiological data (or interesting predictions). In particular, I am interested in the question if synaptic stochastic transmission implements Bayesian regression.
