The European Commission has accepted the EBRAINS 2.0 proposal submitted in response to the INFRASERV call, granting €38 million for the further development of services of the EBRAINS research infrastructure. We are proud to be part of this international collaboration.
Mihai is investigating the brain's remarkably efficient learning mechanisms at the Department of Physiology. In this interview with University of Bern's uni-aktuell magazine, he talks about the fascination and progress of modern brain research, but also about the consequences of Switzerland's withdrawal from European research programs.
The brain makes an excellent example of an extremely powerful computer to mimic—and computer scientists and engineers have taken the first steps towards doing so. this article emphasizes our contributions to the field of neuromorphics, and specially our Fast-and-Deep algorithm for efficient learning in neuromorphic systems. However, as Mihai says: “Our work is not only interesting for neuromorphic computing and biologically inspired hardware. It also acknowledges the demand to transfer so-called deep learning approaches to neuroscience and thereby further unveil the secrets of the human brain.”
Mihai was invited to give a talk at the Albert Einstein Center for Fundamental Physics of the University of Bern, highlighting our research and its connection to Physics. The title of his talk was "Computing with physics: Biological and bio-inspired intelligence". We were really happy to share our research with our colleagues!
